Behind the Brand - Pour Hot Chocolate

Here at Effortlessly Eco, we feel that the people behind the brands are almost as important as the products they sell! Here's your chance to get to know their stories so farwhat makes them tickand how their products are making a difference in the world.

Jared Keir - Founder of Pour Hot Chocolate

Tell us a bit about yourself and the brand (i.e. what you sell, when did you start, where are you based)

I founded Pour Hot Chocolate in April 2020 after living in Switzerland for a year, Switzerland is the chocolate loving country and having a milk allergy my whole life, didn't bode well for me, I truly had never tasted decent hot chocolate. I realised Switzerland loved all things chocolate and so that's where the inspiration came from, after being offered lots of it, i came back to Scotland and decided to make my own. It had to be made from a blend of quality ingredients - Raw organic sugars, organic cocoa.... so I went into my mums kitchen and pulled all these out, after trial and error. Tada! Pour hot chocolate as we now know it was born, in Glasgow.

What inspired you to start your business?

At the age of 20 I soon came to realise that the most important thing in life is to make an impact, so pour hot chocolate became a platform for me to make a difference, I thought to myself, if I start now and make mistakes, it will set me up for the future. I want to live a life that inspires others to be better. I want to be good and do good, that's where my fulfilment comes from, others.

So far, what has been the proudest moment for your brand?

I can remember not too long ago when we had our hot choc stocked in our first café, for me it was something I could have never imagined. Going into a café, to order my own hot chocolate.

What has been the biggest challenge you’ve faced?

At Pour we really do know that our product is very special, there is nothing like it. Getting our product out there is hard. Letting people know it even exists. I'm learning everyday, making mistakes, but faking it till I make it.

Have you/are you introducing any sustainability initiatives?

Our main focus at Pour isn't the money, of course that's important so we can live, but it's about making an impact, when we first started we dedicated hours to perform random acts of kindness for other people when a pouch was sold, we also invited our customers to do the same. Now partnering with international organisations we plant trees per pouch sold, this enables us to be more eco friendly, sure it's something small, but in the long run it does make a difference, indeed small things always do.

Do you have a favourite eco swap and why?

It has to be a new brand called FORGO or anyone that has the same idea, reducing the plastic we use on hand wash, making it into a powder and reusing the bottle.

We are currently stocking Pour Hot Chocolate's delicious vegan hot chocolate here at Effortlessly Eco - perfect for cosy season!
