Guest Blogger - Low Waste Hannah

Here at Effortlessly Eco we like to help like-minded people share their voices! We will be holding a regular feature on our site, where guest bloggers can share a sustainability topic of their choosing. This week's blogger is Hannah from 'Low Waste Hannah' on Instagram.

Picture this: it’s 9pm. Tomorrow you’re getting up, rushing to work, jumping in the car and heading on a weekend away. The usual stress of packing is taking place and the joy you previously felt about this weekend is definitely not at the fore front of your mind right now. You lay out your toiletries, and begin stuffing them in a small, sealable bag. The usual questions of how you could possibly need all these things when you like to think of yourself as “pretty low maintenance” float through your head…

Slowly, the questions around how many things I use grew louder and the desire to find alternatives more appealing. Today, my ‘weekend away bag’ looks very different. Pictured below are the things I consider my essentials, including a not pictured homemade deodorant:

    • Shampoo bar
    • Cleanser bar
    • Soap
    • Hyaluronic acid
    • Moisturiser
    • Toothbrush
    • Toothpaste

Finding what works for you can be a bit of trial and error. So websites like this of items that have been used and recommended is a huge help. My first ever swap was to a Lush shampoo bar, it felt daunting at the time but is probably the easiest swap I’ve made to date. It was quickly followed by soap, which I now make myself, and a bamboo toothbrush. These skincare finds came much more recently after a fair bit of trial and error. UpCircle’s cleanser bar is easy to use, a must for me, and gentle on skin. They come in recyclable packaging and are trying hard as a company to make change. For the toothpaste, I have tried lots of alternatives but we all have to do what works for us and currently this is it for me.

I’ve been on my journey to sustainability for 4 years now and I’ve learned a lot along the way. Sustainable living is often, choosing products that work well for you, minimise the collection in your bathroom and simplify your life so you can live (and pack) stress free.

We will regularly be featuring Guest Bloggers to write about a sustainability topic of their choice - if you are interested in being included please email info@effortlesslyeco.com - thank you!

*We offer UpCircle's bestselling cleansing bars as well as offering stylish bamboo toothbrushes.
